Hey Everyone - I've had some strange behavior from my normally reliable pathfinder lately. I was driving on Sunday and stopped at a red light. When the light turned green I went to accelerate and --nothing. The car was dead. I figured it was the battery as it was old and I had been procrastinating replacing it for some time. I replaced the battery and now the car cranks really well but wont start. If I pump the gas pedal while turning the key it will start and run as long as I put some pressure on the gas. If I let up it dies. I checked all the fuses. Good. I picked up a code reader from NAPA and its giving me a P1706--park and neutral position switch. I cant find much online about replacing that or even if its a common problem. Moreover, my landlord who is by any account much handier that I thinks that a bogus code and its the ignition position sensor that is the culprit. anyone have any ideas or tips? Looking for a DIY solution as I dont want to dump much $ into this ancient beast. Apologies for the novella here -- thanks for any help.

Might want to get under the car and take a look at the wiring going to the PNP switch located on the transmission, make sure plug is connected and no wires are damaged.

The PNP switch is covered starting on page (EC) 606 of the FSM here...

Hey thanks for the response. I'm dont know a ton about cars, but does that make sense as a potential problem for these symptoms?
