Hello, I am new in these forums and have a question I could not find an aswer for doing search.I have a Pathfinder 2001(early) LE with the 3.5 engine, and sometimes when I accelerate I can hear an engine knock briefly, does this in D and Reverse, but only sometimes, and specially when accelerating hard. What I found interesting is that in the manual it says this is NORMAL!!!Actually it is hard for me to believe, so I wanted to confirm with you if I am crazy and the manual is right???I believe any kind of knocking is harmful for the engine.

Any light you can shed on this topic will be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Gabriel

What octane are you feeding it? I noticed our 2003 LE knocked with 87, so we always ran the middle grade in it and it quit. I run middle grade in my 2001 SE and don't hear anything. If I did, I would switch to prem.I don't like ANY knocking, but that's just me.
