Hello everyone... I'm new to the Maxima scene. I have a 2001 Maxima and I can't seem to figure out a problem I'm having. First I'll start by saying the CEL is on. I took it to Advanced Auto Parts and they wouldn't even hook it up to the computer because they say it's the transmission which that is not the problem. It shifts FINE. The problem is, when you give it more than just a tiny bit of throttle the motor bogs down and won't accelerate. If you barely lay your foot on the gas it will accelerate fine. It's the same situation in park or neatral... It's like it's struggling for gas or air. Any ideas?

IMO, he probably told them what was wrong and the 20 year old "ASE master certified tech" diagnosed it sight unseen and said it didnt need codes read cause he knew what the problem was....oh wait thats my local autozone

I had a problem and FINALLY discovered it was an unplugged sensor. I had replaced the radiator and did not plug it all the way in. If that is not the case, there is some way to use the CEL to check it. If someone won't do it, go to their competitor. I have never used it but can email it if you want it. I bought a pocket scan at Advance Auto parts. I suggest if you are going to buy a scanner, look on line they some times have additional discounts you can pay with Paypal and pick it up at the store. Without the code(s) you may as well buy all new sensors because there is no sure way to tell where the problem is. When you get the code(s) check for vacuum leaks. Lastly I have found very good prices on Ebay compared to any auto parts store.

Most likely the MAF but that is a pretty expensive "guess"

Seems like the car is in '"limp mode" indicating problem with a major sensor -MAF, TPS, Crankshaft, etc. Get a free scan from Autozone and the likes so we can help you.

Try cleaning the MAF first before buying a new one.

Bad MAF or you have oil leaking into the spark plug tubes (or water if you've recently cleaned the motor). Both of these problems caused the symptoms u are describing on multiple cars I've had.
