2001 Maxima with erratic throttle... IAC valve engine code

Help. I just bought a 2001 maxima with 100,000 miles. I bought it thinking it was a TPS problem but the new TPS has not helped.

Idle is fine.Power below 1/2 throttle is fine except for specific throttle levels which have dead spots. Above 1/2 throttle it still runs smooth but with less power than at 1/2 throttle.In the dead spots of throttle the rpm wil fluctuate wildly with the gas pedal held constant.

Check engine light was not on when I bought it but came on 300 miles later. Codes include IAC valve, both O2 sensors.

MAF has been cleaned with electronic parts cleaner. Looks fine.

Can the IAC be bad but still have good idle?

Where do I start? I have a basic manual and I'm an engineer so i can trouble shoot if I have a direction.

this manual might help it might be your TPS. i can't remember where but i saw a procedure for the TPS to re-learn the idle. might be in the fsm too.

I just replaced the TPS from Nissan and it is exactly the same.
