Hello all. I have a 2001 Maxima and lately off and on when car is idling in park, motor will cut off. Have to restart and sometimes it will do this 2-3 times in a row. Not every time, but here & there. I thought I had the fuel filter changed before but looking at my records, I never have. Could it be my fuel filter needs changing, that's causing this? And where is it located? I remember awhile back someone told me you had to remove alot of stuff to get to it. This true? Could a sensor be causeing it as well? Thanks in advance.

filter is on the firewall dirvers side on that model, what does your car idle at...is it idling higher than normal...does the idle fluctuate?

It idles at 1200 rpm's, then after about a minute or so it went to 1000 rpms and you really dont hear the motor raise or lower between the 2 amounts. It really stays pretty much in that area but slowly goes from 1200 to 1000, even went just a hair under 1000 at one point. What could cause it to die out once in awhile? Possibly a sensor?

Try cleaning your Idle Air Control Valve. There's a how-to in the FAQ sticky for the 4th gen. Your 5th gen should be pretty much the same with just minor differences.
