My PF dashboard lights are all on with the classic symptoms of alternator failure. Charge battery, runs fine awhile with dash lights on, use radio ect its done ,dies. I am wanting to change this myself I see its tough but so what. Walk me through it somebody please. I am a 33yr construction carpenter(Veteran Desert Storm]]) i can do this. I have the tools. I am no mechanic though. I am including pics. I do see the boot busted on my tie rod but thats another topic. Thanks to you that helps. I am trying to save money. How do I insert images to this post?

We just had another thread about possible alternator failure and that had some good tips. Otherwise take a look at the Factory Service Manuals on the top menu bar and study how it goes in/out.

ok,figured out tensioner got belt off, got front bracket off.starting turning the top bolt i think 14mm and its still tough after several turns all working from the bottom elevated a foot with jack stands. at the point about am i turning the right top bolt which i feel 95% right. its in the 2oclock position facing the alternator. alternator still feels tight thought there would be some loosening. i read the post about the alternator failure and thats my problem. ill look at the manuals now any further tips or help is greatly appreciated.

Check out IDX first, which is the index. That'll show you every topic that's available, and where it's located.

If you are not a mechanic I wouldn't do this with what I've been reading the last few days and from the info on here. Theres more to it. Like the removal/installation diagram doesn't show the nut on the back of the top bolt and its nearly completely hidden looking from underneath. Also, nothing about taking the upper radiator hose off radiator side only removing the shroud and barely being able to get it up through the fan blades as they turn and you raising the it at the same time. So now someones knows, lol anyone need more specifics message me. Thanks

I've had to change mine twice in the last few months... Getting to that nut on the back of the top bolt and electrical connections is nearly impossible unless you loosen the power steering pump... Take the 2 bolts out of the power steering pump and push it to the side... That gives you a lot more room to access both more easily...
