Please HELP!! I have a 2001 QX4 that will not start. It is cranking just not turning over. I don't smell any burning in the car. However, I did use a different key and I tried the 6 times in 10 seconds and it did not work. i had the car towed to shop. (not nissan or infiniti) The guy told me that a code for the ECM is show that it is bad. I just had ECM replaced 2 years ago. Can anyone please tell me what the issue could be or does the replacement of the ECM again sounds about right? PLEASE HELP ME!!! I feel like the shop is trying to take advantage on me.

Unfortunately there's a lot of things you need to verify for an engine not starting. First and foremost are fuel and spark. If you aren't able to check those yourself, it sounds like you'll have to trust the mechanic. Did he give you a price on a new ECM? Did the one you just bought come with a warranty?

The mechanic stated that was the only problem the came up on the computer. ECM would cost me $600 and the previous one did not come with a warranty.

Hi. Just to clarify, did you mean you tried to use a different key to start your car? Or did you try only AFTER it would not start. Because if you tried to use a different key that was not properly programmed to the vehicle, I believe the vehicle may be in a "lock out mode." When this happens the fuel pump shuts off and will not start the car, no matter how much you crank. If the shop is suggesting your ECU is bad, I would first take it to a dealership to get a second opinion. You may just need to get the keys reprogrammed to the vehicle, using specialized Nissan computer equipment. I'm not saying this is the case, but just throwing the idea out there.

ferrerj004 is probably right - you may be in lockout mode. Get the code from the shop and google it - that will tell you what the shop is seeing.
