Hi All,
I've been try to clear code p0138 by cleaning the sensor to no avail. So now I'm looking at replacing it.
I've noticed that the main issue people have w/ replacing it is freeing the sensor's wire/connector from the ziptie/bundle which gave me an idea that I submit for your feedback:
What if I cut my old sensor off the wire and splice on a new one? I ask because I'm not sure how much the splice would affect the voltage i/o which could cause a low voltage code I suppose.

You're completely welcome to call me an idiot or a genius, just please explain why if you don't mind :)

Thanks again!

They actually make O2 sensors with pigtails only so you can do that. Pigtails are about 4 inches long. They are cheaper than the ones with the wiring / plugs.

I would not use crimp style connectors there however. Rain, slush, road salt / mag chloride would likely corrode the wiring over time. Soldered connections with heat shrink tubing would probably work best.

There are people who use crimp connectors and tape them up however.

Another option is to cut the old sensor out and leave the wiring. Then disconnect and cut out the sensor-side of the old connector in the engine bay.

Route your new sensor and cable, zip-tie it where it's most convenient to you, and connect the new sensor-side connector to the old harness-side connector.

This way you don't have to mess with unreliable crimps, solders, or other connections, and you also don't have to cut your existing zip-ties.

Thank you both for your answers! They're mighty helpful. Going to think about it for a couple of days , will add post if any useful information comes up.
