I have a 2001 Infiniti QX4 6cyl 3.5L 4x4. It stalls out when I'm at a stop light or within minutes of coming to a stop. No shudders or surges and no check engine lights. The dealership want to replace the MAF for $600 but after doing a little research on line it seems I should try some other things myself first. Now I'm just a girl with no mechanical experience but have changed the HiD bulbs on the headlights, can change tires and oil...I am ready to try anything other than shell out money I can't afford right now, so I could really use some advice on what to try and how.

You can clean your maf sensor, only a few simple tools and maybe $6 for a can of MAF cleaner. Id also try resetting the ecu ( by disconnecting the battery for the night)

Happen to have msn or anything? Can help you alot faster and with pics on there

ps- even if your MAF is at fault and a simple cleaning wont work, you can buy the part for $150 and install yourself in 5 minutes

The EXACT same MAF can be found in 2000 Nissan maxima's part # 22680-2y001

exact part our pathys and qx4's use, just cheaper..... you can find them online cheap and wait a few days to install or source the part locally at the dealer but still do the install yourself and still save alot of $$$

Thank you so much...I've ordered a service manual on line and waiting for that to arrive since I have no idea what the MAF looks like or where it is under the hood.Once I do get it and have had a chance to read, I'll be in touch via MSN for some additional help...I can't thank you enough

We supply the factory service manual (The manual Nissan techs use to repair your vehicle) for free via a downloadable PDF. The following link will take you to all of the necessary manuals (each part of the car is broken up into separate manuals, start at 'Quick Reference Index.pdf' to see which PDF you need; for the MAF sensor you need to look in 'Engine Control System.pdf'). I suggest downloading them all to your computer so you have them readily available and you can print out individual pages as you need them.

Recently had that exact problem. Took it to a local mechanic and he swapped the spark plugs, fuel filter and added a fuel conditioner. About 700 miles later, everything is fine. I did not touch the MAF, mechanic told me it was clean. Cost about $200.

On a side note, the check engine light came on and I started to panic, got code p0171, cleared the code at Autozone, tightened the gas cap, and the code has not come back.

does it do it when the engine is cold, like when u first start driving for the day or a good time after u have been driving the car like a hour or so?

Mine stalls out after the engine gets warm. Replaced the coils and plugs because I was having a misfire, drives alot better but still stalls. Any ideas?
