We purchased a used 2001 Infiniti I30t two years ago. Soon after we purchased the vehicle, I was driving the vehicle on a very warm day with the air conditional on high when suddenly the vehicle started racing. It felt like the vehicle wanted to just take off on me. I was so scared because I was in a very congested area where people cross over in between vehicles in traffic.

The dealership diagnosed the problem as the throttle cable being too tight and readjusted it.

Six weeks later the same thing happened and all the dealer did again was adjust the idle.

Last summer, I had no issues but then two weeks ago during a very hot day with the a/c on high the same thing happened again and when the vehicle was put in reverse it actually made a "backfiring" noice that scared the crap out of a mother and child walking nearby.

I need help! Has anyone else had this problem that a correct diagnosis was made. Upon review of the history on this vehicle prior to our ownership, it appears the problem was there with the prior owner as well back in 2003 in White Plains, New York.

The dealer probably just doesn't want to bother with it and/or can't recreate the symptom.

Take it to an independent mechanic. My bet is that it's the throttle position sensor.

Might want to pull the Paul Walker out of your engine bay

I had a similar problem with another car before. Check all of the area near the actual throttle (the part you can blip with your own finders when under the hood) and make sure that half moon isn't pinching a line, hose, or wire.

Also post in Nissan and Infinity Online Mechanic section of the boards

You may also have a sticking throttle cable-- replace it. This is somewhat unlikely, though-- usually there's an outside cause.
