Well since I post these in the tech section expecting an answer and never get one...

I have had my head under the hood for 30 minutes trying to spot this thing. Now like I have come to the conclusion there is no underhood fuel filter, am I blindly looking for something else that does not exist under the hood. My general understanding is that I should be looking to the rear bank under the intake "ducting", and past vehicle experience would leave me to believe that this should be on/in the valve cover. If anyone has actually had their hands on one, let alone replaced it, I could sure use some quick advice. Thanks, --Mike

^ That's actually off a 4th gen not a 5th gen but it will be in the same general area. The PCV valve will be under the black plastic intake runners on the rear valve cover pointing out towards the drivers side, not up.

The fuel filter should be on the firewall on the driver's side too, just trace the fuel lines back to it.

The fuel filter is built into the sending unit in your gas tank. You have to remove the rear seats to get to it.

Really? Is that how the 3.0 5th gen Max is too?

Thanks guys, I at least can get closer to where I need to be now. As far as the fuel filter, I pretty much firgured it was now in the tank. I am guessing that because they sell one over the counter that belongs inder the hood, there must have been a transition period in the 01 line...--Mike
