Need help with diagnosing my idle problem..here are the symptoms on my 2001 I30t with 88k miles.Only happens when the car has been driven for 10+ minutes and engine is warm...1) While in drive at a stop the rpm drops to 500 and then bounces back to 700 every 10-15 seconds2) While in park or neutral for 1 minute or less at a stop it will stall the engine and I have to restart Could this be a bad IACV? If so, should I clean or replace it?Thanks!

IACV is a good start. Wont hurt to take it off and give it a clean up. Free to try.

if you have an AutoZone nearby...take it to there and borrow the OBD 2 and scan your vehicle...the plug is under the dash near the hood release.

i had a similar problem. I had a bad MAF and a bad IACV.

i took off the IACV and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner and Q-tips...then i reinstalled it w/o putting Black RTV on it(my bad). The sensor and valve didn't get any better since the cleaning b/c coolant was leaking from the valve b/c of the gasket separation.

I agree with snwbrdr435...check the MAF first(take off the intake, and see if it's all gunked up). It that's not the problem take out the IACV...I would recomend cleaning it, and reinstalling with a thin coat of Black RTV over the gasket first(only if the problem isn't the MAF).

If that doesnt work i'd then recomend replacing the IACV yourself. IT'S EASY TO DO!!

the part from your local nissan dealer should be about $246.99(with a 1year warantee) or from AutoZone you'll pay $221.99(with no warantee whatsoever aka SOL).

BUY IT FROM A DEALER IF YOU NEED TO BUY IT AT ALL!!

Thanks guys! I cleaned the MAF (moderate dirt) and it seems to have solved my idle problem for now. BTW--I think the IACV removal is more difficult with removing the TB completely because of the bolt locations.
