I need help on replacing the cat. converter to fix this code.

I want to do it myself and and I need your help. I need to know where I can get the part, including O2 sensor(s) at reasonable price.

Any pictures, videos, comments, and/or word of wisdom on how to replace the cat would be very much appreciated

Go to page 10, it shows an exploded view and lots of detail.

It's possible that the cat is fine and just the sensor needs to be replaced.

Thanks, I will try O2 sensors first.

Can you recommend a place where I can get these? I've been looking at eBay.

I just came back from the garage today with a code, showing the O2 sensor needing to be replaced. I have a great mechanic, but where can I get this part relatively inexpensive? It is for a 2001 I30.

I am debati9ng between universal one and OEM. I've been looking at ebay price ranging from $45 to $100 (OEM), $27 to $35 (Universal) depending on the sensor. I also looked at Sparkplugs.com and its price range is from $74 to $103 (OEM). I might look into local auto stores, as well.

BTW, do you know which O2 sensor, on bank 2, you have to replace? I was thinking about replacing both (Red and Blue) since my I30 has 142K miles on it. If I know exactly which one to replace, it will save me some money and time.

For OEM parts, best place to buy @ 25% off MSRP is at IoS (Infiniti of Scottsdale) - infinitipartsUSA.com, one if NICO sponsors. However for spark plugs and O2 sensors, the cheapest OEM and quality replacement parts are from NGK.com a.k.a. sparkplugs. com. There is another site, "oxygensensors.com" which offer Universal O2 sensors (require cutting and splicing of wires). If you are not in a hurry, you may be able to get a lower price from Amazon.com. The key is knowing the part number of the O2 sensors that your need. The NGK/NTK, Denso and Bosch sensors are very good but be wary of cheap sensors from eBay. The sensors must be handled with care.

The 96-99 I30 have two emission configuration - Federal and California. Some stores only sell Federal configuration sensors. For 2000 and beyond the Federal and CA configuration are the same.

For 99 CA and 2000 or later O2 Sensors Configuration and NGK.com pricing, see below:

Bank 1 O2 Sensors for Cylinders 1-3-5 on firewall side)-HO2S1-B1: Front 3-wire sensor with BLACK harness, >25" long with sensor mounted on B1 vertical pipe and connector located on top of the engine, rear, pax side, NGK P/N: 24525 @ $68-HO2S2-B1: Rear 4-wire sensor with WHITE harness, >38" long with sensor mounted in front of B1 Pre-Cat and connector located on the radiator side, NGK P/N: 24574 @ $90

Bank 2 O2 Sensors (for Cylinders 2-4-6 on radiator side)-HO2S1-B2: Front 3-wire sensor with BLUE harness, >11" long with sensor mounted before B2 Pre-Cat (sensor is visible in front of engine) and connector located on the radiator side, NGK P/N: 24521 @ $57-HO2S2-B2: Rear 4-wire sensor with RED harness, >29" long with sensor mounted downstream of B2 Pre-Cat (horizontal section of the pipe) and connector located on the radiator side, NGK P/N:24572 @ $93

I just checked Amazon.com for NGK/NTK sensors - 24525 @ $58, 24521 @ $48 and 24572 @ $78. The price includes free shipping. I don't think you can get any cheaper than that for quality O2 sensors. The other one, 24574 is available from a 3rd party thru Amazon @ $81 (shipping may be extra).

If this is the first time you are replacing O2 sensors, better buy an O2 sensor adapter @ $10. A PB Blaster/WD-40 will also come in handy.

My pleasure to help. Just make sure you don't drop them during installation. I usually put some sort of padding around the sensor prior to the actual installation just in case I accidentally drop it.
