I have 2001 I30 with 69,000 miles. I had a problem when I tried to start the car it would not do anything, not even try to turn over. I took it to the dealer and they said the Crankshaft Position Sensor was bad. The car would start sometimes and other times it wouldn't. I ended up changing both sensors, and am having the same problem. I did notice that sometimes when it doesn't start, I will move the Transmission out of park and then back to park and try and start the car again and it will start. Can anyone help, I'm not to impressed with the dealer seeing how they wanted to change the crank position sensor, and didn't even know that there were two of them.

if moving the shifter out of park and back into park always works.... you may want to consider your back/neutral safety switch. It tells the ECM whether or not the car is actually in park. I'm not sure how easy it is to change on our cars but I know that most manufacturers put them on the outside of the transmission (some jerks have them inside). By the looks of the switch itself... it may even be on the shifter... I dunno. It's something to consider.

My 99 max has had the same problem in the past. I freaked out at first, but then realized that even though the shifter is in park, it really wasn't alllll the way in park, so all I did was push it forward a lil bit, and it started right up. The car won't start, obviously, if the car is in drive or reverse. So, if it's not alllll the way in park, the car still thinks it's in reverse and won't start. These cars are finicky and spoiled!
