Hi,

Its just been 15 days since I bought my 2001 I30, its done 82,000 km and is generally in great shape. Since a week, soon as I start the car, a strange continuous noise comes from under the hood as if some belt were slipping. This sound persists for a while and increases as I press on gas. After the car is in motion, noise stops and car runs smoothly. Every time I accelerate after stopping or slowing, this noise comes for a little while.

I'm really concerned as I purchased from a dealers' auction and really don't have much in support from the dealer.

Thanks in advance for your advice. I have used the SEARCH for I30 but could not find similar problem posted.

If its a high pitched squeal....that increases/decreases with the gas, then goes away when warm. Its probably an accessory belt. Tighten it up.

Better check your accessory belts. What is their condition? Change your fluids and filters yet?

What did your technician say when he inspected it prior to purchase? What does the Infiniti dealer performed service history say.

Get a FSM and the TSB, and read the previous posts by Q45tech so you can get a grip on maintenance.

Thanks for quick reply.

Yes, its a high-pitched squeal, which increases with gas. Accurate description.

Any idea how to tighten accessory belt ? I can barely put my hand beside the engine block to touch the belt.

The point is, do not tighten a belt that is worn out unless you want to also fry your bearings. If you see any cracks, replace it, and all the others at the same time to avoid repeated labor.

Hence the recommendation to obtain the FSM and TSB.
