i have a 2001 that i recently purchased. Now about a week ago the car would start and wouldnt stay on. It would just stall. Do I did a scan and it threw an O2 sensor code. so i changed that. Ended up not working.

So i took the car to a local garage, and they said it could be the idle motor, and so he said he turned up the idle (its about 1600) for the car to stay on.

So i took the car to infiniti, and they couldnt figure wat the heck was wrong, they scanned the car twice. And so they came up with this. It needs new electronic engine mounts, it needs a new idle control motor, and it needs a new ecu. All in all its gona cost $2800.

So my question is this, how can i check to make sure this is actually the prob?? How can i check the idle control valve? how do i know the ecu is shot? Also infiniti couldnt figure out how 2 lower back the idle? how do i do that?

I need to figure out what to do? I just got the car and its a headache, its an 01 with only 58kms on it!

Any help is much appreciated

I don't see how the motor mounts could possibly be the cause. They might need replacing but they're not causing your idle issue. If it really does need replacing, it's something you can do in the driveway if you have any mechanical experience.

If the dealer can't figure out how to correct your idle, I suggest finding a different dealer. That's not a good sign.

The idle control motor and ecu may indeed need replacing, but it's hard to say without knowing why the dealer came to that conclusion. Did they indicate what error codes they found?

Have you looked at my prior post & seen what I've been going thru? I had same problem on my 01 Maxima. IACV and ECU put in. Still was idleing bad & stalling. They said they replaced the MAF and its running way better, shifting better, & has not stalled. They kept it overnight so they can drive it more today & see if it still runs like it did yesterday & also if its not going to idle bad or stall out, they said after they changed it yesterday it never did it again. Like Master of Doom said in my post, if your MAF goes out, it does not set off the CEL so that could be it. That was my question also, how did they determine my old ECU was bad? What do they do with the old ones?

+1 on this, solved a lot of my problems when I thought it was a bad knock sensor. Cost was about $250 if I recall correct.

As a side note, I was having speedometer problems in my old truck. Dealer wanted $950 to replace a module with an internal short and a couple other cluster parts. The guys at the speedo shop found a bad ground hidden under the battery tray and sent me on my way for $125..

yea unfortunately theres only one infiniti dealership in my city, so i took it to nissan today, and tried to see if they could clean the idle control value, but they said it was way to dirty, so i will replace that and see how that changes things.

they didnt indicate any error codes. i did a scan at home to awhile back and didnt get any codes other than 02 sensor.

they did do the burn smell test on the ecu, and they say that it is burnt.

Now i read a post about something that a bad idle control valve can short the motor mounts and the ecu? Now i believe the ecu part, but why the motor mounts? I have german cars and i thought they were bad for electrical :s

Look at my other post I put up this morning. Have them check your MAF. It might need to be replaced. Mine was replaced & it fixed my stalling problems and runs WAY better and corrected numerous problems I was having. Thats very low miles on that car to be replacing that stuff it seems, but it happens, Good luck. Let us know what happens.
