I have a 2001 I30 that just shut off while driving. The engine turns over but will not start. My scanner tells me it cannot communicate with the computer. Has anyone had experience with this problem and if I need to replace the ECM can it be flashed or am I stuck ordering a new one from the dealer?

Thanks
Scott

I think that the IACV and engine mount can short the ecu and cause a no start. I'd take out the ecu and see if there are any obvious issues inside it.

I found the problem about 30 minutes ago after getting the car towed back to my house from the "repair" shop. The kick panel on the passenger side of the ECM was missing and someone sitting in the passenger seat must have caught the bail on the ECM wiring harness with their foot and pushed it toward the firewall. That unlocks the plug and moves it slightly away from the ECM so it doesn't make a good connection. All I had to do was lock it back in place by pulling the bail back and the car starts and runs like a top. I will be contacting the repair shop to discuss the issue. Next step - find a new kick panel to protect the wiring harness.

That bail (at least on my 03) should lock in place. Either way, sucks about that repair shop, they should be reimbursing you for the tow if you had to pay.
