2001 I30 and Harman Kardan

i have a Harman Kardan drive and play to hook up my ipod. has anyone been able to hook this into the I30 Bose system. i talked to a local audio dealer and they that the only thing they have is a wired FM modulator. they didn't know anything about the HK. i have a 6 disk changer hooked up. does the back of the unit have rca inputs?

The stock radio won't have rca inputs, and the only way to add one is to unplug the changer. Using the FM mod isn't really that bad of an option in this case.

i don't mind unhooking the changer. don't have the cartridge anyway. if i unplug that is there anything that i can hook into that port to plug an ipod into?

It's possible that here is a direct interface for your car, but I think that the functionality of the HK unit is a ton better than anything that would work through the radio. I'll take a look when I get home, I'm in San Fran for the week and only have my phone at the moment.

The Harman Kardon is a wired fm modulator, or it can be a wireless one as well.

There wasn't a line out as well that you could run into an auxniss or something?

Yeah they had line out on all of the ones i've installed. You could run it into an auxillary input or you could run it into a wired modulator as well.

i knew that you could wire it into aux inputs. didn't know if i could get an adapter to hook up into the cd changer port or if the stock unit had aux inputs on the back. i didn't know you could wire it as a wired FM mod. i have the first gen and used it as a wireless FM mod but of course you get horrible sound quality. i would rather use the aux inputs if i can. what should i do

For an aux in I would go with this part from soundgate. I'm not endorsing the company here, it was just one of the first hits in google for the part. See if you can email the member Broadfield, and he should be able to hook you up with something.

so the back of the stock radio does not have aux inputs? from what i can tell that part from soundgate hooks into the cd port, right? i haven't looked yet, so before i go tearing it out, how does the unit come out? i don't want to just rip it out.

No there aren't any standard RCA jacks like you would hope. This device essentially fakes the head unit into thinking that there is a CD changer connected, and sends the audio in through those lines.

You'll have to pop out the shifter bezel and then the AC vents above the radio the expose a few screws. If you have a 1" putty knife and a piece of packaging plastic, use them to pop stuff out so that you don't leave any scratch marks.
