Hi All,

I have 2001 Infinite I30 with 91000 miles on it. Ready for the major service. I called a mechanic today and he mentioned that it does not need major service until 105,000 miles and minor service should be good at 90,000 miles. Can anyone confirm if this is right with the infiniti's?

Another mechanic mentioned that at 90K the spark plugs needs to be replaced.I believe the original spark plugs are platinum based and normally have life on 90K-120K miles. Should I replace them at 90K?

What are the things that are usually done at 90K service?

Thanks in advance

Per Infiniti FSM Schedule 1 Maintenance, plugs will be replaced at 105,000 miles. 90K Maintenance involves mainly inspection (and repair/replace defective components as req'd) plus change coolant, engine oil, oil filter, air filter and cabin filter.

How's your transmission fluid? Unless it has been serviced/flushed before, it may be overdue.

I would suggest using synthetic fluid when flushing the transmission as well.

I have an 01 i30. I bought it at 50k and it now has 81k. I have not performed any maintenance other than regular oil changes and top off. I also am having some transmission issues I think.

Do you have recommendations, on what I should do? Should I only use a dealer?

Skipping the 60K Maintenance schedule is not good. Your drive belts should have been checked at 60K and 15K thereafter and replaced as required. A belt failure could be catastrophic to you engine. Please refer to your Owners Manual about the Maintenance Schedule, especially Schedule 1.

As for the transmission, for my cars, I do transmission flush and filter-gasket replacement after the first 3 years and every 2 years thereafter. It's not called for in the Maintenance schedule but I do it to prolong the life of the transmission.

Check the condition and level of the ATF. Ensure you have the correct level before any servicing is done. The OEM ATF si Nissan Matic-D but you can use Dexron III or the newer Dexron VI. Your transmission fluid may be dirty or burnt and the filter may be clogged. You or somebody else needs to do a transmission pan drop, clean the magnets and pan, replace the filter and install pan with new gasket. After the pan drop, add the exact amount of ATF drained. Then take it to s shop (preferably with BG machine) for a flush. After the flush, add a bottle of LubeGard Red (not black) ATF Protectant (@ $14 from Napa).

Hopefully, the above actions will fix the problem. If not additional repairs may be required or the transmission needs to be rebuilt.

+1 on the transmission fluid flush. I had that done right after I bought my '01 I30 with 60K on the odometer. It's simple maintenance that will ensure that the transmission continues to operate properly. With regards to the belts, every Infiniti dealer I've ever taken the car to has checked them as part of the standard 3750 mile scheduled maintenance.
