I am seeing no end in sight.... I want to give you a bit of background and maybe you can help?...I bought a used G20. I have had it for about 2 years. It idles low and then stalls. Took it to an infiniti dealership. They said, it was reading that it needed an IACV. Brought it to my family mechanic. He fixed it as well as the O2 censor (because that was dead as well) The car runs fine. The light shuts off until you drive it. The check engine light comes back on. Hook up to the computer and freezes on code 505- the intake again. Check all hoses. Run through all of the codes again-I call infiniti. Tell them I fixed the parts they suggested and it is still not working. They tell me to bring it again for the low price of 105$ they will diagnoss it. Right now, I do not have an inspection nor the third arm that it is going to cost me there- I am not willing to drive it- and the longer the issue runs on- the more money... here is the point: can my computer be broken? Does that happen often in G20s? Does anyone know of similar issues? If no one can fix the problem for which I am paying them, how do I handle it? My mechanic has been thorough and kept me in the loop- he wants to know what I want to do... I have no idea what to tell him...PLEASE HELP

Well, with no maintenance history, tough to guess, which is what your mechanic is doing.

How many miles? Ever cleaned the throttle body, intake or EGR valve?

IACV valves seldom fail. They just get dirty and are cleaned. Dealer replaces them because at their labor rates, it is cheaper.

A Civic costs $1200 per year so expect the 2001 G20 to run say $1500-$1700.

Download the pdf verion of FSM from Nissan for $20 and spend time following the step by step for each code.

Paying an hours diagnosis is often CHEAP, but then again most problems are solved in 2 hours + parts and independents must buy parts from dealer.

Failure to put aside $150 per month [every month] for future M&R leaves you short.

Women [and most men] in general don't understand mechanical things and don't understand the necessity of spending money frequently to prolong the useful life or minimize TOTAL COST to drive. They abuse and destroy their vehicles by under mainteance [fluid filter replacements] and insensitivity to the warning signs of future problems.

G20 haven't change much mechanically in the 18 years since they were introduced in US..........they have gotten heavier but the 2.0 liter engine has stayed the same.

We replace more G20 engines than in any other Infiniti model because of failure to change oil every 90 days!

Wow, every 90 days? I didn't know that the SR20DE was that picky. But I do agree with you about preventive maintenance. I get my transmission fluid and coolant flushed at regular intervals and change the oil on schedule. I prefer not to wait for things to break.
