2001 Frontier check engine code P1776

A friend of mine at works truck just started throwing this cel and i told her to get it looked at. i got a slip from an autoparts store where i told her to get it diagnosed and it came back p1776 : ignition retard request duration fault. i know what ignition retard is but i dont get the rest of it. she told me she hasnt changed her plugs in a while if it means anything. thanks in advance for any help.oh and i checked the list that was put on this site and this code wasnt on it.

so she has a 4cyl, auto trans, king cab, 2wd frontier? If so you need to pull out the pinion gear for the speedo in the trans. You need to see what color it is. If the gear is pink its ok however if the gear is green it needs to be replaced.

P1776 is torque convertor clutch solonoid not anything to do with engine retard.

For future reffrence all p07xx and p17xx codes are related to automatic transmission.

i was just reading off of a piece of paper that she gave me that an auto parts store handed her when she had it scanned for the code.

Any codes that begin with a P1 are manufacturer specific, so if the minimum wage store clerk used a generic scan tool, that is most likely what a 1776 code is on a GM or Ford product.

P0 codes are the same for all cars, but P1's need to be read by a Nissan scan tool (at least for the definitions).
