Hi, I've got a 2001 Anniversary Editon Maxima. The car has been great and I love it. It is time to change the plugs on her but unfortunately the town I live in does not have a Nissan dealership.I took her to a dependable shop in town where the mechanic pulled one plug and ripped the boot over the coil. The shop tried to source a new boot but Nissan does not make the boots alone..........they are together with the coil for about $120.00. I understand though that in 2002 these parts may be purchased separately. My question is whether or not there is a better way to access the plugs? Has this mechanic just been careless? He says that the boot was fused on. How can I change the plugs without having to but 6 coils and boots? Is this shop taking advantage of me?

Thanks for you helpWalter

that fused on to the spark plug thing is something i've never heard of. i think he's bull$hitting u. the boots are part of the spark plug wire. i think he was being careless and didn't want u to know he messed up. i'm not familiar with the altima's though. i'm not sure what type of ignition system it has. but there are people here that are more familiar with them to help you out. hope i gave u some helpful advice.

Common for untrained, uncertified, and careless mechanics to cause problems.

One must be extremely careful with coil on plug designs as random misfires can result.
