Hi I've got my 01 AE in the shop for a tune up. I know the car needs plugs but the shop told me that in one of the plugs they tried to pull they ripped the boot because it was fused. I am told that the boots cannot be bought alone until 2002 so on the 2001's if the boots rip you must purchase a new boot and coil at the cost of $130.00 ea. Multiply this by six and it gets expensive just to change the plugs.I'm hoping to find an alternative to this fix or advice on my next move. Maybe the shop is taking advantage of me?

thanksWalter

I think you can buy the coils individually, so just replace the one that got torn.

You can buy individual coils. $130 per coil sounds expensive-- is it more costly for the `00-`01 than the `95-`99? I'm pretty sure `95-`99 coils are down to $80 each or so...??

Hi, I checked with Nissan parts and they only sell the coil and boot together. It is the 02 that you can buy the boot and coil separately. Anyways, what happened was that he only pulled one and saw that the plug needed to be changed but also ripped the boot because he said the boot was fused. My worry is that when he goes to change the rest of the plugs that he'll possibly rip those boots forcing me to buy new boots/coils. 6 x $130 plus plugs plus labor is an expensive tune up.
