2001.5 Pathfinder LE - Blower 100%

I did some searching on the forums here already and this is mainly to clarify that the problem I have.

I've got the Auto A/C climate controls, and the other day it just started blowing 100% or 4/4. I can switch from one fan mode to another but cannot change the fan speed even though the indicator says otherwise.

I found a service bulletin for a 2002/3 Pathy NTB03057, which indicates the appropriate replacement parts for the blower fan & amp. This may or not be accurate for my particular model.

I also found suggestions on the forums pointing me towards the blower resistor

So now the question is, how do I go about diagnosing which problem it is? I'm not particularly mechanically inclined and I've living off the beaten path with the nearest dealership 6 hrs south.
