My 20th anniversary maxima has all a sudden started getting stuck in 1st gear, but only like once a week .... ther time it runs great. Never slips or anything I've took it to a mechanic and a transmission shop and nêither could diagnose a problem .... (oh and I should state that when I turn the car off and let it set for 5 min it runs fine once again for another 5-6 days then here we go again) PLEASE HELP!

Welcome to NICO.

Sounds like it could possibly be an intermittent issue with one of the shift solenoids in the transmission valve body. When was the last time the transmission fluid was changed?

Its been a while probably right at 2 years .... would it hurt to have it changed right now with it having this problem? ( sorry I'm a girl with not much automobile knowledge lol)

The transmission fluid should be changed every 30k miles, so depending on how much you drive, you should be pretty close. I'd change the fluid and possibly drop the pan and replace the filter while you're at it. There are magnets in the bottom of the pan that collect any metal debris in the fluid. I'd check to see how much debris is on the magnets. A little is normal, if it looks like you're growing a mushroom, you probably have more serious problems.
