Hey everyone,

I went to Costco today in the hopes of picking up a Kirkland battery (Kirkland Fitment Code: 9) for my 2002 Pathfinder. Unfortunately, it looks like they discontinued all batteries for 2001-2004 Pathfinders and QX4s, there isn't even any suggested alternatives in their battery sizing catalogue.

So instead, I was thinking of searching for an Interstate battery since I think it would be the closest comparable to the Kirkland battery that I WOULD have purchased if it wasn't discontinued. But before I do, I wanted to get some input from everyone to see what their recommendations are for a replacement battery, other than a factory battery (I live in Canada, it gets to -40 Celsius with windchill, so I want at least 640 CCA, preferably 700-800 CCA if possible).

Thanks in advance!

P.S. When stating your recommendations, please also include the model/item number so that I may try to track it down and/or order it.

FWIW, I have a battery from AAA here in the US. I live in MI and its gets to about -30C here. I believe their batteries are made by either Interstate or East Penn depending on the battery size. But nonethless, they have always been reliable.

Well I just installed an Exide Extreme battery purchased from Home Depot, many people don't know Home Depot sells automotive batteries, it was very good price with very good numbers hopefully the battery won't let me down.

960-cranking amps at 32-degree F

IMO Interstate batteries have the best reputation. Here in Calif we don't really put the CCA to a good test, just the longevity. I've heard there are only 3 or 4 battery manufacturers here in the US (yes, I saw you're in Ca., but I suspect you get mostly the same ones as we do) but every battery they make isn't the same. Johnson Controls makes them for Interstate and also for Walmart, but I bet the Interstate one is better than the Walmart one, more costly too, although I have had good luck with the Walmart ones, but again, about the coldest I ever see is +25F and that's once every 2 or 3 years.

I'm not saying Exide is bad, just that the 24 hour jump start might not apply if there isn't a tow company they're contracted with isn't nearby.

Walmart batteries were popular with the 3-series BMW crowd. I went with a Bosch battery for mine, and found the quality control was abysmal, going through 3 at the autoparts store before finding one that was satisfactory.
