I know that some of you may think that this is dumb, but wouldnt it be cool to have a turbo QX4/Pathy? The VQ35DE engine was used in the Pathfinder/Qx4 and 350z. I have seen people that have added a turbo to the VQ35DE engine and, so do you think taht it would be possible on the QX4?

I think that would be freakin sweet. I have the slower engine too so i'm actually looking into some upgrades and have thought about the possibility of a turbo or supercharger. The problem is that things are going to have to be custom made which adds up quick!!

For some reason, it's not dumb to me at all.The thing weighs a whole lot, but that would make it all the more fun to make fast.

4x4parts.com has a supercharger for the VG33E for pathfinders for $3250. I think the only major mod is to get clearance for the hood. Everything else is just a bolt on for it.

It's only 5 psi though, but I can't see why you couldn't go up to 8 or 10 if you wanted (other than needing fuel with the proper grade)

for the 2nd gen QX4/ 3rd gen pathy the turbo is possible i think, cause they make aftermarket turbos for the VQ35DE engine. o ya, for u 1st gen Qx4's. look up Nissan Terrano Regulus on Google. Its the JDM Qx4, with body kits

Except us ppl here in Cali are screwed thanks to CARB. If it's not CARB certified, we'll never pass emissions and all sorts of fines can be imposed.

I believe Stillen makes a supercharger for the 3.5L. Someone in my local Nissan club has a supercharged G35. I am sure hood clearance is an issue. I am not sure how the tuning would be, though.

They make a supercharged Frontier with the VG33, so I am sure it could be done for a pre 2001 QX4/Pathy. If you could find one at the junkyard, you might be able to take the s/c parts and ECU.

That would probably be the way to go instead of turbo. I think you might have tuning and reliability issues, unless you find a shop that really knows what they are doing.

Personally, I might have been interested when I had my 2000 QX4 (it was a dog, IMO) but with the 2001, it has enough power for me. If I want to go faster, I can drive my Maxima or buy some kind of sporty car. I hauled a fairly large trailer with my Q and I don't really want to do that again. I am more worried about the AT conking out than having enough power.

Sure, but what about the particulate matter and NOx fumes?

Soybeans eat that stuff, yo.I think back in the 70s we had emissions testing. . and perhaps northwest IN may have 'em (Chicago area). . Chicago / Illinois does, but I'm out in butt F egypt here.

I had an evap canister issue on my 97 240 for like 4 years. . haha. . I just took the check engine light bulb out.

Yeah, some states only monitor high population areas. PA is like that. Had to sell my F150 (302 racing engine custom built!) when my Dad moved there. He couldn't get it smogged and I couldn't store it anywhere else.

Of course, now I live in CA so it wouldn't have mattered if I held onto it anyway!

I got the illegal smog hookup here in SD - $350 not bad considering the penalties if they get caught

$350 for a smog? No way. Considering it's an age where they make me smog every other year, that's $700 in the next 4 years alone.

However, I'd love to find that powerdyne supercharger somewhere and install that puppy!

how much can 5 psi boost give in terms of hp and torqe?

Ok, this is a little squirrely when you look at it...

http://www.ststurbo.com/

But it looks liek the easiest option for actually putting a turbo on the QX4 (that'd be fifty state legal). I might get my wife to go for it later in the year, so if anyone knows any trusty exhaust shops in San Diego, let me know!

I'm willing to be a guinea pig for this one. In concept it'll work. May not be as good as a regular turbo setup, but anything would help our poor beasts.

hah yeah thats "insanium". He was on the message boards years ago. He has a website that talks about his cars somewhere, just search "insanium" But his QX4 ran like crap with the s/c and he hated it

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing. Been looking into that and a S/C on our R50's is only going to drain our gas tanks and give us minimal power boosts at best.

Actually better off spending the money on cams and head porting and exhaust upgrade for N/A. We'll get better gas mileage and more power.

Wouldn't know for sure, never driven a turbo'ed vehicle before.

The more I look at turbo applications, the more I like it. Though it does venture into unknown territory for me. I am curious about what can be done using that back mounted turbo system...

But I do still have that slight feeling that "if you use force induction, you're really sorta cheating..."

I'm still goig to pursue my idea of dropping 500+ lbs off my rig. I know that'll give some mpg and peformance increase!

WHAT!!! We need to chill some time and get some driving done in my good friends 450hp Honda Civic turbo. The thing is insane, theres no feeling like pulling alongside some wannabe baller in a V12 Ferrari or Lambo, or V10 M5, and breaking them off properly in a 4 cylinder!! It's even better when they have a girl or wife with them.

Yeah, they are probably talkin smack about Honda, prices, etc. but the way I look at it, if someone pays $80k - $300k for a car and gets smoked by a 4cyl Honda with $10k under the hood of a $4k car (less than $15k total) then thats quite a feat. My friends Honda is built VERY proper and probably one of the fastest street driven cars in SD. (Notice i didnt say street legal) Its the greatest rush in the world!!

I like to go fast
