2000 Xterra VSS help

my friend has a 2000 xterra and today we were trying to change the speed sensor and i took the bold out and unplugged it and it would not come out at all. please help us this is pissing me off .

yeah they can be a pain! How did you guys come to the conclusion the speed sensor is bad? Theres an O-ring in there that can hold it in pretty good, get some rubber gripping fuel pinching pliers and try and spin it out by moving it back and forth. If that doesn't work and you know the sensor is bad tack weld a nut on the end of the steel casing the sensor resides in. Then try and work it back and forth that way to. peace.

but your speedo still works right? Its an auto vehicle from the sounds of it and it might have something to do with the transmission itself. You see a CEL is more of a guideline than an end all be all diagnosis and kind of gets you in the ballpark. I am not saying that isn't the problem but how many times have you reset the ecu? When does it throw the code? These kinds of things help you really diagnose the problem. peace.

the car is a 5spd and the speedo dosn't work at all.
