2000 X-terra check engine

I have a 2000 X-terra that lost power then got it back upon downshifting. Shortly there after it stalled and had the check engine light come on. After sitting at the side of the road it stared OK and seems to be running OK. Any ideas?

which engine VG33E or KA24DE?
