Hello, this is my first time posting since acquiring my Infiniti over christmas (one owner, just a new family member in possession). This site has been invaluable in aiding my resto process...THANKS GUYS! Pictures are due as soon as the last few cosmetic issues are sorted. Anyway, while driving around yesterday, I saw some gorgeous 2000 Q45T five spoke 17x7.5 wheels in chrome, mounted w/ tires. I know this rim was recalled, but after extensive research including calls to multiple dealers and the Infiniti hotline, I am unable to tell if these exact ones were affected by the recall. Nobody seems to have the information I need.

The dilemma: The wheels are by themselves, with no record of what car they came off. I therefore cannot cross-check the VIN to see if they were affected. So far, that seems to be the only way anyone knows of checking against the recall list.

*** Does anybody know if there is a list of actual #s that would be stamped on the interior surface of the wheel that would allow me to identify if these are a safe purchase? ***

I have written down all of the numbers on the inside of the wheels for checking before purchase. Also tried to ask where the wheels were sourced to try and track down the VIN, but to no avail.

I know someone has to have a list, otherwise, Infiniti might end up replacing the same wheel twice (assuming the rendering process was not completed by less than reputable dealers). According to the recall, these wheels are eligible for replacement even if not on original vehicle. I Want These Wheels!!!!!!

Thanks for ANY help.

Welcome to NICO! You might try calling Joe at Infiniti of Scottsdale (1-888-216-5328) - he's our resident parts guru and can probably get the information for you...

Welcome.

Those are sweet looking.

I have a 2000 I30t Sport, that came with the same wheels, but the I30 had 7" wide rims. The Q (and the Sport I) came with 7.5" rims.

If they are the 7.5" rims, then they probably are the recall.

I do know Infiniti did NOT chrome plate any of them, so I doubt they will replace them, even if they were the recalled (at least not in the chrome finish).

I agree with Heath, give Joe a call.

There should be a stamping lot #, or date code o nthe wheels, that Infiniti can use, to determine if they were the recalled wheel.

Tell us about your Infiniti.

Thanks for the info guys! I tried calling him, but he won't be in until tomorrow. I read somewhere on the forum that a member was successful at having Infiniti replace a chrome version of these wheels. I was unaware that they never chromed them at the factory. They seem to be chromed at the factory as only the faces are chromed (ie not fully dipped as in aftermarket chroming) and the id code stamped in the wheel is 00605C - I figured the "c" denoted chrome, may be wishful thinking. Would love to have these wheels new or not as long as they are safe to drive on!

Anybody have any more info on decoding the codes stamped on the inside of the wheel? I believe the 2YXXX refers to a 2000 build date?

Thanks

Here you go......Write down all the numbers on the back side of the wheels and call any Infiniti dealer, they should be able to tell you whether they meet the recall status by using those numbers. Use the recall #R3006 to refrsh their memories.

Page 1 of 4Reference: Date:ITB03-024 April 23, 2003VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN2000-01 Q45 ALLOY WHEELCAMPAIGN I.D. # / NHTSA #: R3006 / 03V-098APPLIED VEHICLE: 2000-01 Q45 (FY33) – (Touring/Anniversary model with17” alloy wheels ONLY)APPLIED VINS: Vehicles built between: JNKBY31A*1M100002-101879JNKBY31A*YM300015-302786JNKBY31A*YM701255-701280

INTRODUCTIONInfiniti has determined that some 2000-2001 model year Infiniti Q45 vehicles may have a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety. The alloy wheels used on these vehicles may have a casting defect that could cause cracks to develop as the vehicle is being driven. If a sufficient number of cracks develop, the wheel could fail and separate from the mounting hub, resulting in loss of control and a crash. The spare tire steel wheel is not affected.

IDENTIFICATION NUMBERNissan has assigned identification number R3006 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign.

NUMBER OF VEHICLES POTENTIALLY AFFECTEDThe number of vehicles potentially affected is approximately 3,600.

DEALER RESPONSIBILITYIt is the retailer’s responsibility to check Infiniti Net for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary safety recall which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies only to new vehicles, Infiniti strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed.

Page 2 of 4SPECIAL CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE FEATURESOn some vehicles affected by this campaign, one or more of the 17 inch alloy wheels may have already been replaced. If the wheel was replaced as a Warranty Repair, no further action is required. You jest, but ever since I took the reins in February, that has been part of my plan.

Nissan North America has ignored us for long enough, and we intend to show up on their doorstep with a "manifesto" and a list of demands in the near future. :)

Oh, goody! May I attend also?

I think it has been extremely short sighted of them to push the G50 into extinction with non-support and ignorance. It still is the legacy flagship for Infinity and it has aged extremely well and passed its contemporaries in reputation, performance, longevity and extended performance quality.

Instead of dismissing the G50, Infiniti should be celebrating them and encouraging their preservation by aiding their owners lilke Mercedes Benz and BMW do.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

I concur - Nissan did something similar with the Z, didn't they?

Can you imagine a fully factory-restored 1990 Q45? Or a 1993 Q45a? Sa-WEEEET!
