My 2000 qx4 started leaking gas when the tank was freshly filled to full. Upon investigation I discovered the cause of the leak. It was rust thru at the connection to the fuel fill tube by the lower mounting bracket. I started internet search for the part but wandered across a recall dealing with that exact issue. The wording of the recall references states in which the vehicles were originally sold or currently licenced in. Missouri isn't listed however I don't know where the vehicle originated from as I purchased it second hand. I'll call Infiniti soon but wondered if there was way to tell where a certain vehicle was originally sold by vin or other means?

it doesn't matter. the dealership will inspect the vehicle for free, and R/R the recalled parts if it needs it.

my pathfinder is in TX but was originally from West Virginia. the dealership told me they will warranty the part on any vehicle, in any dealership, in any state.

I have mine replaced already.

Give your local Infiniti dealership a call and tell them about the recall and provide your VIN number to them. They will determine if it is covered under the recall. It took the dealership about 2 hours to do the R & R.

Yeah I got mine done too. The gas leak never happened to me yet I did it for preventative measures. SlickRogers started leaking about a month after I had mine replaced and I told him about the recall Im pretty sure he got his done too.

Had mine replaced as well at the dealership under the recall. As this is a safety recall and gas is leaking I would think it should be covered. I would get this done ASAP. Took them all of 90 minutes to replace it along with a $20 oil change.

Thanks for the most excellent advise to all of you...

it's all good now... I had removed the fuel tube during the discovery process of finding the fuel leak, was then looking for a replacement part supplier when I noticed search responses noting recall for that defect.

Thanks to the internet and people that post on forum such as these we have content out there than can bring issues to our attention that otherwise we might never have known of.

The vehicle qualifies, I was just mystified by the wording of the recall about certain states, wonder how they could do that if mine actually had rusted thru and was leaking from that condition, but it was moot. The vehicle was sold out of one of the states listed anyway, it's scheduled in at the dealer already. Now wondering if I should reassemble it or just hand them the defective tube when I drive in... hehe.

I've not had issues with my Qx4 other than this.. which I call minor and the rust thru on the support bracketing on the running boards which I've already rebuilt. The timing chain was replace just ahead of schedule at a 100g. I do have the svc engine lite coming and going for quite some time now... does it reset or is my problem intermittent like the light is? Can't sense any difference in how it runs either way.

Peter,Take your QX4 to an auto parts place and let them run a scan for the code that it's setting. They'll do it for free. My guess, its an O2 sensor. They can go bad, or set a code and it doesn't seem to change the ride. That is what's going on with my 2000 QX4 right now. Just haven't gotten around to changing them (there are 4 sensors, beware, so have them tell you which one(s) is setting the code.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum, a lot of knowledgable guys here.

Peter,I definitely second jsm's advice--not sure if you have Auto Zone by you but they will read the code, and give you a price on the part to fix it (assuming they carry it etc). I would guess it is an O2 sensor, my engine light goes off and on every few days or so. Code was P0158 I believe, bank 2 sensor 2 drivers side. Nissan will charge about $410 to replace it-Nissan part prices are high. I believe Summit has KYG/KYB brand O2 sensors for around $60-70 and it doesnt look that hard to replace. Auto Zone had Bosch for $84. I do not see any difference in performance or mpg with the sensor showing faults so at this point I have no interest in spending the money and time to do it. We have emmisions tests here so if the light is on during the test, it would automatically fail.
