2000 QX4 eBay replacement key problem

Hi guys,

recently, I bought a Ebay foldable key with remote.
And I cut it from local locksmith and it opens door.

Anyway, when I turn on engine, it cranks but turned off. I can run with this key.
Is there some chip inside as BMW? Only OEM key can turn engine?

Yes, your replacement key needs a chip, and it needs to be programmed to the vehicle. There is a re-learn process in the FSM, IIRC.
