I am hoping one of you can help me out. I have been all over the internet and about a dozen forums and cannot find this answer. I can find tons of "how to replace the bulb in the HVAC unit" (auto climate control) however that is not my problem.

My problem is that the actual BUTTONS and the fan dial will not light up. The green lights telling me what button is selected ARE working.

Hopefully you can help me out. It is very annoying to have to guess which vent position they are in in the dark...I have taken that hvac unit out so many times to look for some hidden tab connecting the face plate so that I can get to the inside that I can do it blindfolded. Is there any danger of screwing anything up if I take the faceplace circuit board off and expose the LCD for the auto climate display?

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Just to clarify, were talking about the illumination for the buttons on the auto controller? Or is the actual LCD display out?

If its just the illumination behind the buttons, there should be a few light bulbs to replace. Its really common on older nissans, however on a 7 year old vehicle and ALL of the bulbs are out? I might suspect something else, in the illumination circuit.

You might see if you could pick up a used HVAC controller for the cheap and see if that works.

Yes, it is the BUTTONS that are not illuminating. The LCD is fine. All the actual bulbs are working fine. The buttons are not lighting up. The green indicator in each button (the ones the bulbs are for) are the only thing that lights up. I have been checking at junkyards an online and found the cheapest HVAC unit to be $100 after shipping.

How do you get the buttons off or somehow get access to behind the buttons? It is VERY different from my 97 quest that I could pop off the faceplace. THis one on the 2000 seems inaccessible.

If it is circuit related anyone know what to look for specifically? I am by no means an electrician but I did fix the CD/radio/clock display by re soldering specific connections so if this is the case I am happy to do that. Just need to know where to look. Thanks again!!
