My Q45 has 117,000 miles on it. I bought it a month ago from the original owner. I don't know if the O2 sensors or knock sensors have been replaced. Is it normal that the right bank knock sensor code and the rear right bank O2 sensor would trip the CEL together? The light wasn't on until I took it out on the highway for a short trip. The CEL popped on and I checked it with my code reader. It showed both error codes. I find it strange that both would pop up at once. Has anyone else had this happen before?

Should I replace both knock sensors and all four O2 sensors while I have the radiator apart and the car on the lift?

Has anyone had the rear o2 sensor trigger the knock sensor code or vice versa?

Any help would be appreciated. I checked on ebay and the sensors are fairly cheap? Any recommendation on someone who can get genuine nissan parts for cheap? Or should I just use aftermarket o2 sensors?

Thanks.

Also, can anyone tell me how I know if I have active suspension? I didn't find it anywhere on the vehicle's invoice. Is there anywhere I can get new struts or shocks for cheap? My car bounces a little bit too much in the front end.

First off I saw your other post in the other thread but I deleted it there since I figured id just reply to this thread, in effort to keep the other one organized.

I wont have time to replace any KS or anything on your Q for a while (probably looking like mid october at the earliest). You dont have to pull the plenum to replace the KS. I WILL Do the KS for you, you dont ahve to do them immediately. in other words, replace the o2 sensors now and KS later.

I would get the o2 sensors from http://www.sparkplugs.com. They are about half the price as OEM.

The KS was already there it doesnt throw a CEL, so the o2 sensor is what caused the CEL to come on. KNOCK sensors never throw a CEL on ANY NISSAN.

o2 sensors are an easy job, personally I would replace all 4 or at least have all 4 on hand. Because now theyre gonna start failing one by one. Get all 4 and replace them one at a time or all at once, depending on what you want. The o2 sensors should be realyl easy to replace.

Thanks for your help. I already pulled the alternator, radiator hoses, etc to get to the knock sensors. I really appreciate your help. I found some how to directions in another post. Sorry for my repeated posts. I couldn't find my posting. I am a new user. Thanks again and I will keep in touch. You know your stuff.

I got the knock sensors in and replaced the hoses and clamps that were removed. Do the knock sensor bolts go into a water jacket. I didn't use any gasket maker when I installed the knock sensor bolts. I think I may have a small antifreeze leak underneath the plenum near the sensors. Do you have any ideas. It doesn't look like the leak is coming from the hoses. It may just be left over antifreeze that I didn't see during the install. I tried to clean it up as best as possible. I will try to clean the area again and see what happens. Any thoughts?

I have the exact same problem. Is your car acting up at all? This comes along with the strange stumbles. I get the two codes along with the stumbles at stop lights and major loss of power during acceleration at highway speeds. We have been talking about it for a long time. I have replace both, my KS' and the o2 sensor with no apparent relief from symptoms. I have done alot of other stuff to, just talking about those two repairs.

I don't know what you mean by stumbles. My car runs fine, except occassionally it hesitates when it shifts around 40 mph. But that is rare. It doesn't really have a lot of power. I am not sure if it supposed to be that way or not. It only has 266 hp and it weighs 2 tons. my 1996 maxima was 190hp and was faster. did you put gasker maker on the bolts that hold the knock sensors?

My '98, which I bought with 62k and now has 124k, wasn't "fast" or "powerful" feeling.

Then around 90k miles it got real sluggish, especially in hot weather. No codes.

I replaced the MAF...only slight improvement. Then I did knock sensors. I pulled the plenum and found lots of gunk behind the throttle body and inside the intake runners. I used a glass bead machine to scour the inside of the plenum and used brake cleaner to get the gunk off the throttle body.

New spark plugs and a K&N air filter, with an open air box......totally different car. For the last 34k miles it's run like a top and it feels fast and powerful.
