Hello and thank you in advance.. I own a 2000 Q45T that’s been a very nice car to have.I purchase this car with 30,000 miles on it 2004, now she has a 138,788.I had a dealer service at 60,000 O2 sensor at 83,000 and change the oil every 3000 miles,

The car was driven by my wife only starting out, and then economic times hit us hard. The Q45 became our only source of transportation,I was not able to have the 90,000 nor the 120,000 but I keep the oil changed and clean air filter and I only used premium gas.

This summer if I was idle and the air conditioner on the temp gauge would move a little passed the middle but never get hot, but I ‘d turn the air off and the gauge would go backnormal.

As the GAS prices has come down, that’s going my chance to get my Q service. So now I began to smell oil burning I find out the valve cover gasket is leaking and she started missing, I know that I can’t afford to take her to the dealerAnd the shops in my area were charging more than I had to spend. I found a mechanic To do the service and valve cover gaskets.

Now by this time my Q is not running to smooth (service engine soon) light was on, I had it checked out misfire #1 cylinder.

Now let me get to why I’m writing last Saturday the mechanic did the service, changed plugs all fluids and filters and the valve cover gasket, So that night I pick up the car and drive it around town WOW what a nice riding Q45I almost drove out of town the ride was so smooth, acceleration was on the money, when idling you did not know the car was on.. perfect. Sunday morning, proud owner of a great riding Q45, pull up to the store to get a paper put her in park WHY DOES SHE START MISSING don’t understand running so smooth then back to missing, the mechanic suggested I try some gas treatment I did STP Plus. Didn’t work and last night the service engine soon light came on, I will get that checked today.

I did buy ngk platinum plugs as recommended by Infiniti dealer here in TX. I wondering did something disconnect or should I put a knot on the mechanic’s head well maybe not before he takes a look at the Q .

Sorry for jumping all over the post, any suggestions will be appreciated

First, relpace the plugs with the OEM recommended NGK PFRG immediately!

When you do, switch the coilpacks between #1 and #2. Then be vigilant after the ECU is reset for another CEL and report back where it indicates a cylinder misfire.

Way past time to clean EGR, IAC, TB plenum and lower runners, but you can do it your self with gaskets and tools including a good torque wrench.

When did you last mechanically exchange the ATF and PS fluid?

Non expert technicans and especially mechanics may not be careful in removing coils when changing plugs accelerating coil failures.

Any miles after 100k are a blessing.

Coil packs seem to be the Y33's timing chain guide issue. Many, many, many members have reported random misfires that have been cured by replacing all 8 coils with OEM new parts.

I removed mine like I was building a house of cards and it still created a misfire. How do you explain that big guy? I have a guess-sometimes your wrong.

You have a failed coil, buy a new one and replace the coil on cylinder #1 and count your blessings that you got a code for yours. The others may last longer but be prepared to replace all of them if you keep the car. Its expensive but may be easier to replace all at once since you don't work on your own car but your call.

Maybe you removed a failed coilpack?

As I've said in past threads on this subject, I do remember reading in these forums years ago that coil problems may surface more readily after replacing spark plugs.

Why? No idea..leave that to the experts here.

However, it perfectly coincides with your symptoms, and with everyone's proposed solution.

Just another good reason not to be in the habit of replacing sparkplugs too soon- everytime you remove coils to get to them you risk damaging the coil!. My Q will make it to 299,999 miles with only 2 plug changes total, instead of factory recommended 4 changes.
