I just bought a 2000 Q45 Anniversary Edition. The previous owner lost one of the keys, so all I have is one key and the remote. Aside from the dealer, where can I get replacements keys. I see some on Ebay but after I read the listing it seem like they are for 2002 and newer Q45. If anybody has gotten replacements just let me know where.

Thanks

Your Q senses a "chip" in the key head that must be matched in order for the car to start - so it's more complicated than having the key cut. Many larger locksmiths will have tools to accomplish this depending on demand in your area - or it could be a dealer-only item.

I am looking for a replacement transponder key blank. I also know that it would have to be programmed at the Dealership. I am looking for a source for the key blank. I would also be interested in a remote keyfob if anyone would be interested in selling one.

Thanks

I picked up a chipped key on ebay for around 30 bucks. I have not yet had it programmed at the dealership. A local locksmith had some blanks which matched the ignition and door cylinders without a chip. I bought one of those just to have a spare door / trunk key. It will not work in the ignition cylinder. The car will crank, but will not run. Someone here suggested that the anti-theft system will disable the car and you will have to have it flat bedded to a dealer to get it fixed if you try to start it with a non-chip key.

One of these days, I'll have him cut this new (chipped) key and then I'll schlep it down to the dealer for my colorectal rechip. Of course, they probably won't do it since I didn't purchase the key from them. Just a guess on my part. Call me a cynic.

Our preferred discount OEM parts supplier is http://www.everythinginfiniti.com - might have to call them for this - their parts lookup is not the most intuitive.

I was told by a locksmith that the original two or is it three transponder keys are needed to make a duplicate transponder key. You might want ask the dealership.

That's for programming the remote, not the transponder key that's used to start the car.

Do a web search, I know I saw a place you can get the transponders for sure....I would buy one transponder from those guys, then go to the stealership, talk to the parts guy and say "I need a new key and this transponder doesn't work anymore". I did this with my X-Terra and the parts guy got the service dude to program everything for me since I dropped down with him on the key.

If you cannot find it let me know, I know i can find the place that sells the transponders, but honetly at the end of the day the dealers is best for keys now sadly. Makes me love my 84' Z that has no chip.
