Took the Q to the dealership and had a full inspection/ diagnose done. My A/C idler pulley is what was making a horrible whining sound according to the dealership. The dealer wants $150 for the part and they have to order it in, I spoke with someone who said you can just replace the bearing inside the pulley. A parts guy I talked to said there is no listing that they have for the idler pulley or the bearing, but he says most bearing are a pretty standard size/ fitting and he thinks he can match it up as long as the bearing isnt "staked" into the pulley.

Any ideas? does anyone know if the bearing is "staked" in to the pulley? should I just order the whole pulley and not waste time trying to take it apart and have the guy match up a bearing?

any info is very much appreciated, would be really cool to hear from someone who has seen this pulley and maybe had to replace it or the bearing.

Thanks! this site is invaluable, my car is almost back on the road..... should have my sr specials from japan sometime in feb.

The bearing isn't staked in... just press fit. Here's a link to pressing them in and out for my truck. post5448799.html

You'll need some tools to do this, so replacing the whole thing is definitely easier.

......and I wouldn't be surprised if its the same bearing and possibly pulley as the G50. Here's a thread with bearing numbers and pulley dimensions.

You'll want to replace that bearing with a NEW OEM part. You'll want to ensure that it is bolted to a NEW OEM bracket with NEW OEM bolts. You'll want to use NEW tools. That bracket is probably bolted to an old (possibly original) part. Consequently, you'll want to replace that old part with a NEW OEM part as well. And if that part it's bolted to something not new, for example, the engine, then it too will need to be replaced with a NEW OEM part, irrespective of its cost, and irrespective of the cars worth. NEW. That's the mantra.

It's my guess that the brackets and hinges for the hood along with the struts which support it are used and worn out. You got it, NEW OEM ones will need to be fitted. That hood could fail tomorrow! If you're going to do all that work, why not use new parts?

How long has it been since you repainted that thing?

Keith Bowers (Nico Member TexasOil) sells a complete set of good-quality replacement bearings for all three idler pulleys. He doesn't list them on his business website, but you can e-mail him and ask about them. I bought a set from him a few years ago, and the pricing and service was unbeatable.

Replace all bearings and belts unless you are a fan of repeated labor. Bearings must be top quality to match OEM. No Chinese.
