Hey guys,

I've got a 2000 Pathfinder LE that has been having intermittent instrument lighting issues for the past couple of years. Sometimes the Left side lights go out (Speedometer, Gas gauge) and sometimes the Right side goes out (Tach, Engine Temp), and quite often it's both sides. Occasionally I get both sides working properly. In fact you may be driving along and have one side or the other just start up after being dark for some time. So wouldn't appear to be bad bulbs, any idea what might cause this type of issue?

My guess is light bulbs that aren't making good contact, or simply on their last legs. You can pull the gauge and measure voltage on the sockets to see if it's steady or if it's as spotty as the lights are acting. I'd replace the lights regardless, considering they're 15 years old. The groovy news is that we have a guide on LED conversions, so you can switch colors and not have to worry about replacing them again:

Mine did the same thing, I just replaced the bulbs and I haven't had an issue since.
