Hi there

I live in Los Angeles, CA (anyother members here who have Pathfinder in Los Angeles area), and need some help.

I own a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder SE, Automatic.

1) My driver side OEM corner lens lost a tab, and is "hanging." I wanted to replace with OEM lights, but local junk yards want 50$ for OEM lights. So I thought I would put clear corner lenses, as I see members here who have them. Where do you guys buy the clear corners? How much?

2) My car had the power antennae. It was stuck in "half" up position, and the motor doesn't work. It was no problem, but with heavy winds, the base of the antennae broke, and no on highway, it moves around like a flacid pen15. Can I replace it with a stand up non power antennae? Any recommendations?

3) My car doesn't have the rear cargo area cover, that hides things in the rear cargo area. I am looking for a dark grey OEM retractable one. Where can I purchase one?

4) My car has the OEM bull bar/grille. Because of the little grilles on front of headlight, the light output was poor. I have removed the grilles, and light out put is still poor. I need to drive with fog lights to see anything. What HID would be the easiest install without doing too much modification?

5) At night, the lights behind my "fan" switch and climate control some of them don't work. How hard is it to replace those lights?

6) My instrument cluster lights at the brightest setting isn't very bright. Is that normal with Pathfinders?

Thanks for the help

Welcome.

HIDs are a bad idea with the stock halogen headlight housings. They will reflect a ton of glare, be difficult to aim properly to avoid blinding other drivers, and depending on the color temperature, reduce usable light output. Read here for more information. I highly advise against a HID conversion.

I believe the entire fender is different between the power antenna and fixed antenna models.

You can replace the instrument cluster, HVAC controls, and a few other lights with LEDs fairly easily. See the results of my LED conversion here. The bulb sizes for all of the bulbs should be posted somewhere in that thread; I'm not at home at the moment so I don't have much time to verify. See this thread for instructions on accessing the rear of the instrument cluster, and this article for instructions on how to access the rear of the HVAC control unit. Do you have auto or manual climate control?

The cargo shades are an item that's rather difficult to come by. They're something like $150 new, so scour eBay or wait for a member to sell theirs.

Thank you for the info and warm welcome.

I don't NEED Hid. Just want brighter lights. I thought the grilles in front of lights were the problem, but output is still poor. What would you suggest?

So are you saying I have to replace it with another power antenna?

I have manual climate control. So the poor instrument cluster lighting is normal for this car?

Thanks for the info on cargo.

Are your headlight housings clouded? What bulbs are you currently running?

Yes, as far as I know you'll need to replace it with another power antenna. The junkyard is your best bet.

Manual climate control has two #74 bulbs. I replaced them with two tri-LED SMD cool white bulbs and got the pictured result in the other thread.

Yes, the poor instrument cluster lighting is a rather common complaint. Replace the five illumination bulbs with #74 tri-LED SMD white bulbs and you'll get brighter (but not blinding) light with a blue tint.

There is a rather recent strut tower corrosion recall. It's unlikely to affect you as you reside in California, but you should still have the vehicle inspected by the dealer (it's free). See the first page of this thread.

Thanks for the info. Will stop by junkyard next week for antenna.

Headlight lens was clouded. Made them more clear by polishing.

They are OEM bulbs. Stock.

I'd try replacing the bulbs with something newer, but nothing blue tinted as that reduces the visible light output even though it looks brighter (additional reading here). Since our headlights are already relayed (unlike WD21 Pathfinders), adding a heavy-duty relayed wiring harness for the headlights will produce no significant benefit in terms of light output. I'm not too happy with the light output either, but the 9003 bulb design is outdated and looks like crap, so there really isn't much that can be done. I replaced my 11 year old OEM Made in Japan bulbs with the cheapest Sylvania bulbs at Wal-Mart (with no blue tint of course) and noticed a small but noticeable increase in light output - it seemed a little brighter. The faithful OEMs reside in my glovebox in the Sylvania packaging.

Id also suggest not doing the hid upgrade, i regret ever doing mine. And the light output is horrible on rainy nights. The bulbs also constantly crap out and all the kits on ebay are essentially the same manufacturer. There is one member on here "fueler" (also from cali) who has the oem hid projector/housing. These are super rare, and were only available in the japanese version of the qx4. Pretty sure fuler paid almost $1000 for them though. Search the forum youll find his thread on them.

As far as your stock bulbs...do you know you can aim them? Maybe they are aimed too high therefore reducing light output to the pavement. Some hella lights would look really good on that grille, consider that too although I'm not sure if they are allowed on CA highways (i hear chp is pretty bad)

I forgot to mention. Download a copy of the factory service manual, it's an invaluable resource. To save a copy of the FSM, right click -> Save As on every PDF, save them into a single folder, then use fwd.pdf to navigate. See page EL-34 for the aiming procedure.

Thanks for the reply!

Looks like OEM bulbs is way too go. How do I aim them ? You are correct no output to the ground.

Also hella lights would he no problem. I run my 67 mini with three hella lights on all the time, and in 11 years never gotten hassled by chp. But I don't like how the wiring on my mini is visible. Not sure how the wiring would be done on the Nissan.

Thank you for that, I will do that now.

No big deal. :)

Try using some Meguiar's PlastX and a lot of elbow grease to help remove some clouding on the headlights. I've had good success with that product. Perhaps apply a coat of wax to the headlight housings after clearing as much cloudiness as possible to help prolong their unclouded look.

CIVILIAN Yup I used the meguairs stuff and some elbow grease. They were TOTALLY yellow, and the pic I posted is the improvement. I will work on them some more. Again I am very grateful for the quick and well thoughtful responses!

MASSLE I ordered the clear ..your car was what I liked. Cost me 36$ with tax. Shipping was free. Are you using orange turn signal bulbs or just leaving it clear? Your headlights are FANTASTIC clear...wow I am jealous

All 2001 - 2004 R50s use 3.0 watt bulbs in the illumination positions, so the light output should be approximately the same across those year models with the dimmer switch at maximum. I'm not sure what wattage bulbs the 1996-2000 Pathfinders use. 2002 and newer use LEDs in most the warning lamp positions (except for certain 2004 models equipped with "fine vision meter". The three illumination bulbs on 2002 and newer Pathfinders are 3.0 watts, while the other bulbs (turn signals and brights indicator) are 1.4 watt bulbs.

Hahah yeah im lucky my headlights were clear when i bought the car. As for bulbs i just kept the stock white ones. i though about getting yellow but decided it wouldnt look that great. The only downside is the blinker is a bit less noticeable because the headlights but i havnt had any problems and i dont think its illegal.

I remember a thread a while ago where a guy with a QX4 actually sprayed his headlights with a clearcoat. I think it had UV protectors in it or something which prolonged the clearness and resisted yellowing.

I used a turtle wax kit for my head lights and it worked well.

Since I have one headlight housing that is 1.5 years old (courtesy of my crash) and one that is 11 years old I can really notice how well that kit made the old one look like the new one.

As for the corner bulbs, you should probably get the orange ones, where I live it's illegal to have white lights as signals. Also it looks more stock-ish and less ricer in orange.

Most convienient place to buy them for me was the dealership. I paid like $4.60 a piece, but didn't have to bother with shipping from china etc...

If you want an orange turn signal you could get led switchbacks which are like 30 dollars, they can be considered as "ricer-ish" but there cool. They are white led when driving and when you turn on the bilnker they change to orange

One problem I am having is, I can't aim the headlights.

I have gone through the FSM that is linked. I see the picture, and I see where the screw is, but I don't see that screw in my car.

Is it possible if anyone can take a pic of their car and point it out to me?

Thanks for the help

I got the clear turn signals and in Virginia you have to have amber turn signals. Couldn't find any online, but went to my local napa and said I wanted amber bulbs for a 01 pathfinder and they pulled them right off of the shelf so I would recommend trying napa. I don't think it was more than $10.
