The gauge cluster on a friends Frontier has been acting buggy the last few weeks. All of the sudden the speedo, tach, fuel, and temp gauges would stop working. Then sometimes they'd start working again. Well, yesterday they bit the dust for good. Just don't work at all anymore and now the check engine light comes on after a few minutes. I haven't had a chance to take a look at it yet. Just going by what she told me. I'm sure I'll start with the fuses. But that doesn't sound like a fuse to me. Anyway, I thought I'd ask you experts if there is any known problems or fixes to this problem.

Thanks a bunch.Robert

The unified meter has taken a dump. It is the circuit board on the back of the instument cluster [the gauges are bolted to it] Not uncommon on the D22 series. You can do a basic test on it. get in with the key on set the trip meter to 000.0. Then shut the key off. hold the trip meter button down and turn the key on similtaniously. then push the trip meter several times till you see the trip meter light up every segment in the display. once that happens you are in diagnostic mode. when you press it your speedo should go to about 20 miles per hour your tack about 2000 rpms and your temp and fuel guages should go to about the half way point. If it will not enter this mode you need to replace that board.
