Well, it's getting difficult to find a replacement reliable S14 around my area without more than a 100k miles. Or a replacement car that's as great as the 240 and equally as cool + good. I don't really want to just buy one off of ebay or something that's across the country. That would mean I wouldn't be able to test drive it or give it my personal inspection..

SO, instead, there seems to be plenty of other cars available around here. Like this 2000 stratus with a 2.0 liter engine, 5 speed..nice and roomy too. Has a bit of aftermarket support too. Definitely not as cool as a 240, but they are *reliable* which is what i need at the moment.

Now while reading about this 2.0 liter engine, I read that it is the same as the Dodge Neon 2.0 liter and people are slapping turbo kits on those neon motors.

There are no turbo kits for the stratus. Next thing that POPPED in my mind was to turbo the stratus! =) It would be a great little sleeper and the turbo would add a little pep for passing people on the highways.

So basically what I'm asking you guys is, do you know of any -good- neon or dodge performance forums? Hopefully, there are some knowledgable people there like there is here...

As far as I know, no one has turbocharged the 2.0 liter engine in the stratus, but the same engine is being turbocharged in the neon with the HAHN torbo system - http://www.hahnracecraft.com/auto/neon/neon.htm

I don't plan on buying this kit, but maybe trying to bargain with them for some of the pieces like the exhaust manifold and similar things like that.

I think it would be a good compromise for what i'm looking for. What do you guys think?

Although your idea sounds feasable, would it not be better to check it out on an SRT forum?

Well you say you want the stratus because it is reliable. However, if you go slapping on a turbo kit to a car that rarely has one, reliability will probably fly right out the window.

Yes really, its gonna be a money pit to get it running right. The neon and stratus engine arent exactly the same. The stratus engine revs slightly higher for the same amount of power, (and even less torque) so it might not be as turbo-friendly as the neon engine.

You don't own a shop, it wouldnt be a good idea to pioneer a turbo setup for an engine that quite possibly has never touched forced induction.

Ok, lemme get this straight. You want reliability and a cool car--so you want to get a chrysler (!!!!) vehicle. Oh, and then turbo it? Maybe rethink this a bit? Unlike american vehicles, 100k isn't a big deal at all on a 240, especially if it's been taken care of. Go ahead and ask in the KA-T forum how many guys are running stock engines with 100k+ miles. It's all in the compression and maintenance...

So it's NOT the same engine? are you sure? shows what i know about POS cars anyways...

it was just an idea if they had the same engine. both year 2000 cars have the same specs from what i've searched around on.

seriously though, it would not be hard to put a turbo on if they are the same engines.

and reliability is not DEFINITELY screwed if you're not a dumb *** about it. i mean, if you keep the boost low and don't act like you just bought a brand new, rev happy sports car.

it is just a pipe dream though guys. right now, i'm jonesin for my old 240 and it sucks that i can't find one around here. you don't know what you guys have until it's gone man.

TAKE HEED and cherish your blessed 240s!! lol =)

seva, it's a pretty low mileage stratus.

and the 2000 stratus has a 5 star J.D. Power and Associates rating for mechanical reliability. that's pretty damn good for what it's worth and is really the only reason i even though about putting a turbo on it.

Well it seems you've already realized this but just wait it out for the 240. Even if you turboed the Startus and it was reliable, it would never be as fun as a 240 with the same treatment. =\

you are so right.

i'm such a loser for even thinking of all this crap... stratuses look so dorky. lol

by the way, i just moved from hawaii a few months ago. how long have you lived there?

my wrecked champagne gold S14 is sitting at angels towing and wrecking yard up waianae. i left it to the yard with a pioneer cd player still in it. if you could go up there, and get my cd out of there, it would be cool. the thing was all messed up and i was too bruised to care enough at the time to rip it out and hook up the + and - terminals so it would shoot my cd back up.

also, if no one has got it off yet, there is a dual N1 catback that was not affected by the crash (frontend) and an injen intake..probably still good. also, a pair of piioneer componet speakers up front and kenwoods in the back. maybe some more junk in it too...like a small black folding buck knife that is valuable to me.

you should really take a trip and check it out. it's possible some of that hasn't been found yet.

Haven't lived here for too long, little over a month now. I've yet to make it out to any junkyards but I'd like to start once I get my car on the road again. (It got royally raped during shipping)

Also, being a haole, I was told to try to stay away from Waianae for the most part, but we'll see.

I'm not sure what you mean by "afraid of what I am" but I was just warned of a few areas by some locals...
