2000 Maxima vin number engine code; Differences.

I'm looking into buying a 2000 Maxima with the eight digit of its vin number being an "A" but most of the other 2000 Maximas I have looked at have a "D" as the eight digit. What is the difference in these two engines, if any?

The 8th digit for Nissans is just a feature code. The "A" stands for Airbag system while the "D" means Driver and Front Passenger airbag with 3-point seat belt. Has nothing to do with the engine. The 4th digit has to do with the engine.

Thanks for the info MaximA32. For a while, I thought the one I was looking into might've been a mid year production, with an older engine in it. Good info to know.

The 2000 is going to have the VQ30 in it.
