Hello

I get a P1320 code and I changed out all the coils and still get the same problem.

When the car is cold it stalls and backfires - but warmed up it is fine. And the smell is very bad.

Before I changed the coils I pulled the spark plugs and all looked fine. SoI changed the plugs with new coils. Now it runs worse and when I pulled the plugs out there are all black.

So the black plugs and odor tells me that I am running very rich. But no codes for that problem. What controls mixture? Air flow sensor - Air temp sensor?

Help - - - money is going down the toilet

Ken

I'm not sure if the set up on the 4th gen is similar to the 5th gen or not (and not sure of your code)...but on the 4th gen, there is an idle air control valve (IAC) that is near the opening of the throttle body that aids in metering the air/fuel mixture. On some vehicles, if this becomes "gummed up" it can manifest in a stalling problem, especially if you don't clean the throttle body on a regular basis. I would recommend using a good quality throttle body cleaner (sprayed directly into the throttle body) and adding a can of BG 44K to the gas tank. See if that helps...the most you're out is $40. Just my opinion, I'm sure others will chime in as well. Good luck.

What Maxhopper suggested is probably the best way to start. Another thing is that did u get the coils replaced at the dealership. Make sure that each coil has a silver dot on it. These signify the newer design coil. This is the only way to tell the difference in the two coils.

I was hoping you'd bail me out on this one. The diagnosis I went off of is based on older Nissan equipment...but I try to help.

How much did the MAF run you? Where did you get it?

May have to do this myself.

Thanks in advance.
