just got the car...it was sitting for a while...

regular driving it feels fine...but after about 4000 rpm it takes forever to get to redline with no power...takes maybe 15-30 seconds in second gear to get to redline...

it sorta feels like when we pulled the vtec wire off my friends 97 prelude...

it just doesnt have the extra kick at higher rpms...

i am thinking maybe it is the butterfly valve not opening or something...can that cause that big of a performance issue?

thanks...car does not miss at all...

I've got a 2001 20th (103,000 km)- same problem. At 4500 rpm the thing loses power to the wheels and 'coasts' along. Only when I back off the throttle does the car come under power again - and when it does it clunks into gear. Very frustrating. It also hesitates when cold (low speeds).

I have recently replaced the front side O2 sensors due to SES light. Mechanic also sprayed the MAF with cleaner while under the hood. Light came back on shortly and now am considering replacing MAF.....? It really seems like a crap shoot at this point.

Too bad - I really like this car but am getting to the point where I may trade it in on something else if this nonsense doesn't sort itself out.

Cheers

Clean out the throttle body and make sure there aren't any obstructions in the intake.

You can also check all of your vacuum lines to make sure they aren't mucked up either.

A lot of people are having throttle and fuel efficiency problems lately. Wonder what it is.

If this is a VIAS problem (The Butterfly valve), then here is a good write-up about fixing the internal linkage.

Hope this helps....

Pull off the MAF sensor and clean it off (see thread on P0171 error code). That is a simple process that you can do while cleaning/inspecting the throttle body. Also have someone sit in the car and work the trottle (with car of of course....) so that you can verify the butterflies are opeong fully. I experienced a cable out of whack on another car once and it was jacking with me, once fixed, she ran perfect.
