2000 Maxima Rear Seat won't fold down

I have a 2000 Maxima SE. The rear seat on the driver's side won't fold down. There is a release (looks a lot like the knob for a door lock on an old school American made car) that you pull up on to release the seat so it can fold down but no matter how hard I pull, it won't move up and unlock the seat.

I'm afraid if I pull too hard, I will break something. There must be something I'm doing / not doing wrong. Anyone know how to fix this?

I'm not positive on the 2000 year but there might be a release inside of the trunk as well that locks it in place.

A Max owner can give you a better answer then I.

Just encountered this 2 days ago myself. There is a lock switch on the back of the seat. No idea why it's there, but you won't get the seat down with it in the locked position.
