Hey guys, I'm a new owner of a 2000 Maxima GLE. I love the car, but it hesitates like I can't explain... It almost doesn't go anywhere for a few seconds, then it smartens up and runs fine.

The car does this only at cold start up, and then it will be for the rest of the trip. It idles fine while cold. The car gives me no engine light and runs beautiful otherwise.

I'm kind of at a loss here.. I don't know where to begin. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Hesitation when cold... hmm. Clogged fuel filter? Bad/failing TPS or MAF?

How's your fuel economy? Is it normal, or is it worse than you're expecting? I think there are some threads here about it...

Thanks, buddy. I did read a thread about a MAF and the symptoms sounded similar. Would a bad MAF only give me grief while cold, or would it be constant?

I'm not sure. I've had them only giving grief when cold before, so I've experienced that-- but that experience is not necessarily true at all times. I would check the TPS and MAF voltage output both when cold and when hot and see if there's a difference. Keep in mind that the differences at idle when cold (vs. hot) may be minimal-- less than 0.1v-- and that could still be enough to cause a problem. If you have a copy of the FSM that should given you the voltage ranges.

Hi there,I have had this same exact problem. I have been trying to sell the car, and naturally the check engine light came on about 2 days ago. Incidentally the car hasn't been acting up while the light is on, as a matter of fact, I haven't had problems with it in a while but when I did, it was the same as what you said. The Mass Air Flow sensor had already been replaced recently so I knew it wasn't that. I took it in to have the code read and it turned out an IAT sensor code. It turns out that is Intake Air Temperature. It is about a $20 part at the local parts store. Thought this info might help.
