I want to install an alpine CDA 7894 in a 2000 Maxi, what's up with the stock head unit, how do I remove it, and do I need to buy an adaptor to fit in the new HU, or can I put in a cd shelf below it or something? Heh used to working on the s13 hatch, which is....easy as balls? So I just need a little help. Non-bose btw.

Removal steps are here. I would think any sinlge DIN pocket should fit to fill the rest of the opening.

More fun advice, know anywhere I can pick up a single din cd pocket? Cheapest I've found so far is 20 bucks, unless that sounds right.

I'd expect between $15 and $20, especially if it's one made specifically for your car (yr/make/model), but never hurts trying ebay, just watch out for shipping.

Did you try Crutchfield/Circuit City/Best Buy?

Ok installed the head unit with a cd changer, initially the nighttime interior illumination didn't come on, so I checked the wiring just to make sure everything was hooked up, it is...heard a pop, lost power to the head unit, checked the fuses under the hood, 15a audio fuse was blown, replaced it, no goal, not sure what else could be the problem...the gauges won't illuminate, interior clock won't come on, and the HU isn't working now either. Any ideas?

The power wire for the unit should have and inline fuse, and my guess it popped when the other did.

Your first steps should be to find the grounding issue that's popping the fuse. Once that's resolved, look for the little wire off the back of the HU that says "illumination" or something to that effect.

You may have also popped one of the fuses in the dash panel, near your left knee usually.

Heh it was officially too dark to see, fixed the wiring this morning and replaced the blown fuses, everything is perfect, thanks though Rex, you kick all the ***.

So, now we have to ask, "How's it sound?".

Glad I was able to help, that's what we're all here for.

Eh....eh. It can't compare to my cdt's in the 240, but it sounds much better than it did before, so I guess its an improvement. Anyone know what size 2000 Maxima tweeters are? Next project is new speakers in the front, and we're thinking of taking a dremel to the rear deck to add some coaxs in as a replacement for the back door components, which just don't do very well for rear fill.
