Hey Guys,I am working on my friends car for him, I am a domestic kinda guy so my knowledge of these cars ins and outs is somewhat limited, though I do know alot about the different sensors and the inner workings of the car do and what can cause what, but with this I am stumped.......

My friend has a 2000 Maxima V6, here is the symptoms of the car, his car bogs horrible if you give it anything but the lightest gas, it will rarely go abovw 30 MPH or so and if it does it is a struggle getting it there.....when you press the gas down it bogs and doesnt even rev or increase in rpms, and when you let off the gas it bucks(right near the pedal level when it runs ok in the first place at ,just slight application...

Heres What we have done so far and I was hoping to shed some light on this, cause he has been to three nissan dealerships and they cannot figure it out.....

We have replaced the :

Catalytic ConverterThe PCV valvenew spark plugs, I pulled out the MAF and cleaned it with electronics cleaner and put it back inI ran Seafoam thru the vaccum system, gas tank, and crankcase to break loose and clean out any gunk in the engine comb chamber or anywhere else........considering the PCV valve had lots of carbon buildup on it.... (this product cured the problem I had very similar to this with pinging on my 94 tbird V8.

Still after all of these no change...

I need some direction on what else I can do and where the heck to start cause I am stumped

What are the symptoms of a mass air going bad? What about O2 sensors?

Any other ideas would be appreciated...

sounds like your MAF is screwy.

Unplug the MAF and see if it runs any differently. If not, try cleaning the MAF.

I agree, good place ot start... If it runs better seemingly with the mAF unplugged, then buy a used one from the classifieds

if your plug looks like this

Theres a metal clip thing you have to remove in order to remove, it prevents the connector from coming off.

Have you checked fuel pressure? If that turns out ok the MAF is suspect.

I tired to figure out how to test the FP on thse cars with my FP gauge and tester, but it doesnt seem as plug and play as my mustang is, how in the heck do you do that on these cars? Also how do i reset the pc on these cars after I install a new maf?

You have to get a t-splitter to test the fuel pressure.

However, if the car ran the same/better after unplugging the MAF, that's definitely your problem. I wouldn't recommend even bothering with the fuel pressure for now.

You have a bad MAF. Very common on the 2K max. You need to replace it with an updated maf. New maf is about $120. Thing is the ECM needs to be reprogrammed with the consult inorder to accept the updated maf. I have done probably hundreds of these by now.

A little side note on the connector hes reffering to. If any of you have ever come across these connectors you know what hes talking about. The trick is to first slide the green area down into the connector and while holding it in its downward most position push in at the arrow he is mentioning this will release it and you can simply pull it off. Once its off the meter it will stay in the slide position till you put it back on. At which point it will snap back up.

well, if it's the updated design, a dealer will have to reprogram it with a CONSULT tool. If it's not the updated design, then you can just plug and pray.
