Okay so my friend has a 2000 maxima that has egr valve problems, he's paying me to work on it but I haven't worked on one like his. Is there any way just to delete the egr valve? And is there any way to get to it without removing the throttle body? That's my bigger question lol all that I've seen is people telling how to clean the egr piping but not on removal. Thanks.

The EGR is there for a reason and your friend is paying you to work on it, not delete it. Removing it may cause the CEL to come on, fail emission inspection, and pollute the environment due to high NOx at the exhaust. If you have to delete it, you have to ask the consent of your friend and remind him about possible consequences.

Well ya lol he's fine with it, were in tn, no smog tests. He just wants it to idle right on a cold start. The prices he's looked at for a new egr are way too high so i was gonna clean it or delete it depending on which would be easier. Especially since most I've seen on cleaning ends up it get cleaned again in about 30k miles due to the same problem, he's had to replace the egr valve 3 times and the car just hit 200k miles. And cel has always been on due to egr valve problems. He just doesn't wanna pay another overpriced dealer mechanic $300 to fix it if it's gonna happen again.

Where are you in TN? Im in TN and when I go through marta if a CEL is on thats an automatic fail. Its not hard to change an EGR valve? It may be the EGR guide tube that is clogged up and not the actual egr. Its a pretty common problem on VQ30's to find EGR guide tube completely clogged up
