2000 Max SE stalls when I try to accelerate

My car stalls when I try to floor it to speed up especially on inclines. If I gradually speed up I really don't have any problems but if I try to quickly accelerate it will rev up like it is going speed up and then it gradually lets me speed up but initially it feels like it is losing power then it gradually regains power. The svc eng light has recently come on and it is giving a reading of a bad o2 sensor. What could it be?
